The male shields the female

A show of subconscious affection

The toddler wears a harness

Shows the parents’ lack of control

The school kids walk in single file

Teachers flanking vulnerable areas

The entertainers jostle for space

Unseen camaraderie with their fellow performers

The discreet man looks like a tourist

But takes photos of the unsuspecting

The monolith of the Shell corp greed

Watches over in grey monstrosity

The beautiful girls stroll and saunter

Their egos fake like hotdog meat

The saxophone squeals amidst the noise

The voyeur watches behind dark glasses

Behind the facade the camera clicks

Their essence stolen

They are left empty

The hat gets filled with £1 coins

The books of many are read under the sun

Hidden behind clouds

The bugs crawl over my arm

The damp grass cools my stomach

The girl’s fat ass stares me in the face

The entertainer feigns religion and false gratitude

The entertainer just wants his money

The limbo man sets up his gear for another try

The money stays in his pocket when he performs

The girl in red takes the voyeur’s photo

Pouting like a skinny coke-riddled whore

The worm rumbles beneath the ground

The city boys hi-5

The American jocks laugh too loud

Fake laughter is worse than tears of sadness

The queue for the eye is endless

The girl reads messages on her blackberry

The peculiar music

Is the soundtrack to the bowie glass ball juggler

The yellow plastic bag

Rolls along the grass

The white man in his African t-shirt

Colours like a chameleon carries his child upside down

The worm grumbles

And rumbles the ground beneath me

The schoolchildren in 80s sunglasses

Clap along and look so-damned-cool

The grass around me is empty

The voyeur bites a Mars bar to starve the hunger

The pigeons are the only beings the voyeur likes

The people make him sick

The saxophone plays the same melody all day

The only song the public know well enough

To part with their meaningless change

“Spare some change mate?”
