Hyde Park

The lake sits in essence

Rippling lengths of elongated circles

Little kids pedalling pedalos with half empty hellos

Orange life rings sitting idle waiting to save a life

And all I see is a man and a woman – his wife

Sitting at a picnic as she nit-picks at the perils of marriage

And he carries her with big money and expensive cars

Her dress so far from happiness it screams regret

And there it is too scary to forget what is before your eyes.

A lone bench where an elderly lady with blonde hair

Sits alone with a depressive stare until a younger blonde lady

Sits by her side and with less of pride starts a conversation

And all of us or maybe just me a drunkard with friends

Notices this jewel of humanity shining

Before the shimmering lake and this is all it takes

To feel alive beside the hives of human bees

With no release, their conversation lasts hours

And I watch them with a wry grin on my lake boat race
