Our Idiot Eyes

It was the eyes that jolted me

Distant and staring bloodshot

Disgusting with injustice.

Blood dripped from their chins

Teeth flashed beneath hairy faces

Where the spaces in between

Had to be seen from behind glass

Windows and cameras held up by those

That had to document

Everything there was to see

And little old me was spinning

Around the periphery trying to breathe

Just trying to see how this could

Ever be a different fate from the one

We all see every day of our tragic lives

All lies and deceit can I please

Keep my receipt because

I’ve seen enough of these animals

Eating each other alive,

Beside Climbing frames and patches of grass

Sunken within the ground to amplify

The sounds that reverberate

Through our bones, for all we can do

Is watch with our blood lusts

Bleeding our honesty into the palms

From wrists from arms we harm

Everything we build we break

Our eyes in surprise of our violence

And yet we continue to sleep

Well in our own living hell we created

With our manicured hands and

Pressed suits bought from

Young men with beautiful hair

And stupid faux consumer smiles

I was just fine before that door

Opened to our future and sprayed

Imagery into my mind with

More mindless art copied from

One to the next and no more

Originality can be found in

This dead end town of reds

And blues and haggard truths

Trickling from the tongues

Of me, of you

Of uncreative savagery touching me

In ways I’d rather have forgotten

Another rotten vegetable disregarded

For being left in the drawer

It’s a score, it’s a bore, it’s gone

And forgotten, downtrodden and smashed

Regardless of how much we attempt

To grab hold of this madness

And make it our own to show just how much

We have achieved in these steely

Dreams of corrosion and erosion

Dusty explosions and mediocre media

Moguls pulling the wire wool over

Our idiot eyes.
