Sardines on a Line

Cram ‘em in Sardine nation

Cap them off with ring – pull – tin – can

We can fit more on surely you moron

Doors on the brink of bursting

Rubs crushed and hurting

Slide ‘em shut the heat is oppressive

Even impressive that we don’t all

Perspire to be little puddles of human

I’m burning down here trapped without

Fear behind yellow lines I sit

Back against the wall watching them

All fall into deeper and deeper

Canyons, an abyss of heat fuelled rage

In stages from bitter to annoyed

To looks that show murderous thoughts

And all the sardines are caught

In the long metal worm

Such is fate to breed so much hate of a fellow

Man, how can we stand to be

All this close to so many

So morose flitting back and forth

Such a hurry to be in these sardines

No dreams just gritted teeth, tutts

Rolled eyes they despise one another

Just a few minutes of patience

A couple of seconds stolen for yourself

Brings back a smile as the legs

Strut past under capped peaks on dirty

Brown floors dogs on all fours look up

Benign, confused and amused

At all the fish with malevolence

All caught on a line.
