The Writer and the Swallows

The writer or poet or whatever you must

Found himself on a sun drenched Spanish road

All covered in dust

they were promised rain but again

And again

The sun threw its heat their way

Warming the faces of cloudless days

His back to the sand

His face to the sky

Only blue, only blue forever

Shades of sea crash waves of blue

Into the sky intermittent cloud blue

Yellow sun… what fun

All the beer, nobody to moan

All the beer on glass tables

On balconies where shoulders burn

One burned belly button burned

Swallows and beer swallowing beer

Found utopia here

Wants to stay here

Long fulfilling walks in the sand here

With burning stones on the pebble beach

Grey stones, blue stones,

Pain rockets through the whole body

But a jump into the ocean clears

Clears the pain

Eases the mind

Enriches the heart

So hot at 6pm

Yellow star beating down on Spanish tiles

Onto rickety brown chairs with splintered legs

Just the writer and no one else

Burning yellow star

Above swallows following the butterflies

Just the writer and the swallows

Swallowing beer
